OT: I officially hate PC hardware.

After deciding to wait a little while before upgrading the missus's PC=20 (Duron 750)to see if the parts prices come down, mine started acting=20 flaky and freezing again. Last time I pressed reset, nothing happened. Powered it down and=20 restarted it, nothing happened, no video output. Thought video card had=20 popped as PC appeared to be booting but with no video output.

F*ck i thought, graphics card has popped, might as well work out what 2=20 upgrades will cost, so I check Ebuyer

2 Athlon 3000+ with HSF, and Foxconn socket 939 boards.
2 PNY Nvidia 128meg PCI-E 6600GT
4x512meg 400DDR (1 gig for each machine)
2x hiper modular 425watt PSU about =A3550.

Then I thought of something. I had frozen while trying to burn a CD-RW,=20 and time before while trying to erase a DVD-RW.

So I disconnect the IDE channel for the DVD and suddenly everything is=20 very cool again. It boots and runs, and is very nice. but no DVD=20 writing. Bugger.

The HDD on the same ATA133 extension card is fine. So the card hasn't=20 packed up.

Still, all of the above, and a DL DVD writer(might as well do it right=20 with the writer this time) comes to just a smidge over =A3600.

Just don't fancy waiting for Ebuyer to get the order right, maybe go=20 through their RMA process, and spend Xmas day building PCs.

Do not buy a Foxconn board. The clues in the name. ;-)

Mark S.

See thing is, I never heard of them, and was worried they were another PCChips, but on the few hardware sites I've requested spec advise a few months back, everyone said the same thing. "Foxconn, not the most overclockerable, but it won't go wrong and they fab for everyone else".

I was told they were like Benq monitors making for everyone for years, then fabbing under their own name.

All the review websites and owner reviews on forums have said good things about them.
