Top Gear tonight...

Nope, i don't think it looks nice?

I do, honest.

They're not that big, theres one that parks on the road out here, and its way smaller than the 405 :)

The autocar test i have says its rather dull - they're comparing it to a Clio 172 or cup, i forget which, and something else, the Focus RS i think, although i don't think these 3 are really in the same class.

I like 'em these days. Never used to, but they've grown on me.

If you're a long term reader of AutoCar, you'll known they're generally rather biased against Civic Type R's (biased is probably the wrong word).

The Civic and Focus are, the Clio isn't (but is probably more entertaining to drive than the Civic).

That was so nobody would mistake it for an aborted VW. :) Actually bloody good cars though, and worth something now if you can find a good one in the hands of a clueless fool, and snag it for peanuts.

so far off to the left that it will be in the car park. :)

Oh, I don't know, it's a classic in a sense, just not in the same way that, say, a Ford Cosworth is. Every generation has got to have a hero, and this is just one of the most convenient. Maybe the line between classic status and childlike idolisation is just blurred a little too much.

Funny you should say that.; A bloke is selling one that comes into my mates garage, its got a V6 with triple weber 45's on it, well rapid. Unfortunaly its the worst shade of green I have ever seen. He only wants £2500 for it. oh ye dodgy brown leather seats as well!! Rich

If you have the cash snap it up. Puke green was a standard Porsche VW colour, and the 914/6 is pretty rare ISTR.

There is only one listed on Autotrader nationally (and they don't even have a 914 search option). Black with Leather £3295 from a Dealer for a '72 4 cylinder.

The old nutter ones (P1, RB5 etc) looked fairly mean, but the bug eye and the newest ones just look a bit camp :)

A 914 with a V6? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Something is very wrong there.

Now, if it's a 914/6 with a flat six Porsche lump, then for £2,500 it's rather a nice deal. And it /should/ be green.

Remember - the 914 is the Boxster of the 1970s.

Wuite right, I chose to mentally correct the V part in my head.

Would the Webers need to be downdraughts, if triple carbs, to effectively work on a 6 cylinder?

You tell me, maybe you're just a vague kind of person.

Nothing twisted, that's exactly what you implied :)

Now *that* I do agree with you on. From some angles it's ok, from others it could be much better.

They're overcharging then, ProSport tell people how to do it for free :)

'practical'. They're both the same in terms of practicality, except that the Evo handles better (and is generally not as happy on the road as a result).

It's the same with anything tho - you have to pay a premium for a better quality product with a much better image.

Strange assumption, it's the image and inherent 'cheap' feel of the car I don't like. The speed, of course I do.

I've been flogged by a few, and I've 'held off' others at times, much to the bemusement of their owners. Depends on the power level of the partilcular car (the low end of 200bhp ones are not much quicker, whereas the high end of 300bhp ones are).

What that has to do with anything I'm not sure...

Sounds like a good enough reason not to touch it with a bargepole then.

Come to think of it they might not even be webers. Rich

In article , snipped-for-privacy@dmc12.demon.co.uk spouted forth into uk.rec.cars.modifications...

But you don't have to be gay or a Hairdresser to drive it.

I prefer to think of it as the 550 spyder of the '70's. Much nicer image.

Agreed, I have a 99 classic, which has same looks as rb5 apart from the wheels and body colour, I dont like the bug or blob eyed models.

:/ You just dont give up do ya.

lol no it wasnt.

Well I dont know about u but removing the steering components and moving the bits of metal that build in the understeer is not something I would try in my own garage :p

It only handles very slightly better due to its computer controlled diffs, yaw control etc. Takes away some of the excitement in my book. The sti or P1 is more than a match for any evo on road or track though.

Well most ppl think the evo and stis are on a par. So the evo is too expensive.

What are u driving then? The base model is 225bhp btw, and thats conservative, Ive never seen a standard uk model on rollers produce less than 230bhp.

Base model is only 208bhp.

The late (2000-onwards) ones have 217bhp.

Lordy's got 200bhp, but his FWD gives MUCH less transmission-loss. Once you get above 50-60mph, there's nothing in it.

Above 40 in 3rd, I leave STi and WRX's for dead upto about 70. Really surprises them to be passed by a slightly grotty very dirty looking B reg. shame I can't bare to replace the Turbo badging with injection ones.

No they don't. Only Impreza owners generally think that.

Does the Nissan Sunny GTi-R qualify as the "worst granny car made fast"?

The Ti isn't that bad when you think about it now is it?
