Underclocking my tuning box...

Do they have the plastic filler cap surround?

So therefore needed piles of revs to make any progress and was surely very low geared too...?

Jeez now that is a libellous statement. Can one libel oneself?

Umm the Syncro was a LHD. The GL was a MkIII.

Brakes seemed to be optional on many cars but IMO VW sold the cars with the worst brakes outside some Italian marqes.

Didn't old Ettore Bugatti say "I make my cars to go, not to stop."?

Even at 30 mins/stop its still quicker...

Lower Cd probably, higher CdA more than likely.

And it did see 7000 rpm in top...

Oh indeed, redline at 6800, would run to 7400 (from memory), and often did.

Very nice engine though. And it took the sustained high revs really well.

Are you pissed again? - 'cos that makes no sense whatsoever.

This one isn't as good as the 143k GL I sold a couple of months ago - that managed to pull up *very* sharpish in the pissing rain down from

110, one evening on the way home from work.

However, when they did the rear beam bushes earlier in the week, it came back feeling even more s**te, and the handbrake obviously hadn't been adjusted correctly.

So that had it back yesterday, and they had to give them a flush.

They now feel more like the ones on the GL... thank f*ck.

I've got a set of Rover 600Ti calipers and newish EBC grooved disks which were modded to fit a VVC Tomcat (4x100 stud pattern, same as the Golf), sitting outside (1)... angle grinder, anyone? ;-)

(1) No, my name isn't Glasgow Rob, and I will *not* be attempting to fit these.

You haven't added on the time you will need at the side of the road and at cashpoints in France paying the fines.

I wasn't pissed before, so how can I be pissed "again"?

What, you don't think it's grossly libellous to say someone comes from Kent?

Not unless they're from Gloucestershire.

Instead you've sold your soul to the Germans and drive a Pissart.

What's your point, exactly?

So what?

Presumably with the radio off you hear the diesel chatter?

The figures don't work out like that for our particular needs.

(unlimited miles, maintained, replacement on 3 years or 80k miles)

I haven't sold my soul. I have a 75 undergoing restoration and a 156 on the drive.

I have a German car for business use.

That's not selling my soul, it's picking the best car you can from what's put in front of you.

You hear it a bit.

The point is that you can't *feel* that the engine is running.

Engines are designed to rev, you cause less stress on the engine I'm told by using less torque and more RPM to develop power, so I tend to when pressing on stay in the lowest gear possible (current car is an auto and it's learned to do that for me!). Never had an engine failure other than cambelts (nissan sunny at 110k never changed, Rover 75 at 9k premature fail).

The Volvo was chipped from 180 to 225bhp and driven exceptionally hard, yet never suffered any ills.
