Veggy Oil

Sep 19, 2005 93 Replies

There was a programme about customs and excise in Scotland investigating a guy running a taxi and van delivery service using kerosene as fuel. One of the things they said was that running a diesel engine on kerosene over a period of time would knacker the engine. Of course, this could just have been C&E propaganda!

Not the kebab houses in Fallowfield and Rusholme, thus rendering the joke still questionable.

Obviously. But you wouldnt actually advertize the fact!

Mmm, I can see that but since kero is diesel coloured and smells the same.... And you can buy it cheap as heating oil...

Oh... Well I am all for sawing the back out of fridges and destroying the planet myself.

Well you are right, if you want to play by the rules, but not everyone does.

Well no, actually it CAN bugger the fuel pump, etc, because its just like diesel with the oilyness removed! You need to add a little oil (1 to 2 percent) to it. Then its just fine.

But only in Fallowfield and Rusholme. And anywhere else which uses naan instead of pitta, he said, hedging his bets...

The scroat on TV wasn't oiling it - and he was flogging his taxis and vans second-hand, just before the engines cried mercy, to unsuspecting punters!

Is there such a thing as a 'safe' kebab???

Yes. An uneaten one.

Rusholme has "Curry mile", why would anyone want a kebab there?

Steve

Depends how much chilli sauce is on it I suppose.

Some western pigdog capitalist concept called choice, comrade.

Actually, the (some/most/certain) kebabs available down there are fantastic. And Abduls in Fallowfield does a corking chicken kebab. I know this is quite tedious but I just can't stop typing meow meow meow meow meow

That's where we should arrange a meet.

Is Monsoons the one near to Maplins? I'm sure I had a half decent Donner from there one lunch time? Must check out Locos then.

Best Kebab I ever had was from a small van near the Wyvern pub, near the airport in Luton. Having said there, another pointless tip, if you want the best fried chicken ever, the Al Bada in Bury Park (you will probably be the only white face, but it is cool) Luton. Ignore all the gossip, I lived in Bury Park for 4 years as a student and then after when I worked in London. Heard about people have trouble but nevr saw any of it.

Not the good ones :) A standard normal large kebab uses a pitta.

A real "on the way home from the pub light snack" uses a proper table sized Naan. First you pile on a bucket of salad. Then you shovel on as much Donner as you can squeeze on. Then you roll it up like an in Seikh kebab. Wrap it in foil and away you go. Interstingly, turks in turkey server Donner on a flat bread, bit like a Naan or Chapati. Only greeks serve in on a normal pitta. Been there, done that, eaten Donner, Olives and Feta in Turkey, and got wasted on Raki.

Raki? As in Yeni Raki - some sort of aniseed type drink (bit like Ouzo et al) ?

Yep.

umm, I'm pretty certain you didn't ;-)

Yeah, and Abduls. Kebabs rule & god I'm so classy.

Oh yes. That stuff. The national drink of Turkey. Which is odd for a Muslim country, not daft them Turks.

I have heard about the legendary Abduls. Must try Locos. Mind you, my idea of a meal is manchester is the All you can eat chinese banquet just down from picadilly.

Best one locally (for a given definition of local) is the 'Special Kebab' from the place near my sister's flat.

It's got doner, lamb, chicken and god knows what else, in a giant naan. it comes with salad, chilli and raitha, and it is so big it takes up half the dash on the Scorpio.

Richard

There is the remnants of some form of large kebab in a wrapper on my floor... No idea what is was or where it came from, but opening the packet made me feel decidedly dodgy.
