I bought my used 240sx a couple weeks after the clutch was replaced. As I drove home (about 2kms) , the clutch began to slip badly. I took to the mechanic who replaced the clutch and another mechanic. Both said that clutch was burned out and that hydraulic clutches are not adjustable. My brother(a mechanic) adjusted clutch and it has worked for about 6000 kms or 8 months. This morning, as i started car i noticed clutch was very stiff. I drove about 2 kms before clutch was really slipping. I took clutch arm off and twisted push rod, in an attempt to adjust clutch. I forgot about lock nut. Anyway, it was a really hot day, so i just put it back together and the clutch was no longer stiff and seems to drive ok. I'm wondering what could account for this seemingly intermittent problem.
Also. is it necessary to take clutch arm off to adjust clutch push rod? I realize now that you unfasten lock nut first and then you , assume, twist fork at end of push rod. I could not rotate push rod while clutch arm was still attached. I did not put assist spring back right. the notch where the spring is supposed to catch was warn too much.
I checked pedal height beteen floor and top of pedal pad and it was about 6 inches. I measured from where the floor was sloping up not from where the floor was flat. the spec says the distance should be
7.5 to 8 inches.
