I have a 2001 Grand Prix with the wonderful (hah!) microship/resistor/whatever theft deterrent key. I locked my keys in the car today, so figured I would just go to Wal-mart and get a key made that would just open the door, but not start the car. I would then keep that key in my wallet for emergencies. The person at Wally said that the company that made the key cutting machine told them to not duplicate this type of key, as using it could damage the car. I explained that I would need it strictly open the door, but no deal. This sounded like utter BS to me. Can using a key like this just to open the door possibly do any damage? I don't feel like paying another $40 for another spare key (had to get one for my wife, as I got the car used and it only came with one).
Thanks for any help, Tim Reidy
