Fiixed one lekky window, 1 to go.

Hi All,

The drivers window hasn't closed without help (pulling it backwards as it shuts) since I bought it off my mate for 100 quid a year and a bit ago.

I took the door apart today and found the window motor / mounting bolts had been working their way around in the door panel and turning most of the round holes into slotted ones!

I took the whole lot out and found the mounting points of the motor bracket had all bent and torn. I bent / tapped everything back into place and MIG'd it all back up, re fitted the motor and window and now it all closes neat and tidy ;-)

When I pay a toll I have been just opening the door (it's easier than getting the glass back into place) .. now I just press the button .. ;-)

One more job though. The passenger lekky window switch won't work. I can open / close the window from the drivers side but the passenger switch does nothing?

Any thoughts before I take the other door to bits please?

All the best ..

Myself it sounds like a electrical problem unless you can hear SOME kind of whir...

If you could get access to the systems try a multimeter with a friend using said buttons...

Then you could know if it is the switch, motor or wiring...

Hope this helps.

The passenger window works ok from the drivers switch so I'm happy the motor is ok? And I assume that the passenger door switch might be ok (to a point) as I think some of the power for that window goes through some of the switch?

I think that's what I'm going to have to do ..

Or if it's the switch or maybe a broken wire or summat in there?

Well see when I take the door panel off ;-)

All the best ..

Usually, its a case of the brushes in the motor having worn out or crumbled due to excessive door slamming. Check with a test meter whilst operating the switch. If power, then its the motor. If you feel brave, try saving money by taking the motor apart and fitting new brushes because an off the shelf one at a dealers will cost you.

Hi Paul,

I don't think I'm making myself clear here ;-(

Both lekky windows go up and down fine. ;-)

The remaining problem is that the passenger window will only function from the drivers side switch?

I *think* the passenger side switch will interrupt the control from the drivers side passenger switch suggesting that it is still wired in (at least)?

Any thoughts?

All the best ..

I would then be inclined to check where the cable loom goes through its flexi conduit from door to A frame. If your going to get a cable break, it's most likely to be in this area. Check both sides. I used to push a needle through the cable insulation and connect a test meter to that in order to get a reading. Good method, does little to hurt the cable.
