I just bought a 97 SL and realized that there are no rear speakers. Can someone confirm that the wiring is already back there and I just need to install speakers, or will I have to run wire from the head unit back?

I'm almost positive the wires are there. You'll just need to pop up the package shelf cover and look under there for the wires. You'd have to remove the shelf to install the speakers anyway.
In 2002 SL the wires can be seen from the trunk.
