I would like to inspect and grease the taperd axle shaft bearings in a TT rear end that I plan on installing in my Hawk. Drums and backing plates have been removed. So far I haven't been able to locate a slide hammer puller as shown in the shop manual. Is there any method that will work without using the slide hammer. Rear end is on the ground and not installed. Thank you jimmijim

Jim,
Put the drum back on and leave about 1/2" between the nut and the hub.... gently tap the axle shaft out using the drum as your slide hammer.
I am working on a new set of tapered axle shaft pullers and hope to have them done sometime over the summer

Yep, loop a length of chain and a pipe or socket extension and yank. ( Note, make sure your balls are not the backstop for the axle when it flies out. )

SnapOn makes a very nice puller for the tapered axle. It is a slide hammer type. They also have a grease seal puller that goes with it which makes pulling the grease seals trivial also. Let me know if you need the numbers and I will post them (altho I think I have already done that a time or two).
