That's true. However, it's IOttMCO that inspections are too infrequent.

Someone always dies before they paint-in the crosswalk.
This was a suspension bridge, the suspension was underneath the bridge deck rather than above it. It used a lattice work of metal framing. It had a very long suspension because of the need to keep the shipping channel open that's why they didn't use concrete piers. It was a sound design of 40 years ago, 1967.
So, Spending more money on a bridge that they were spending money fixing and had a replacement plan in the future would have prevented this problem? How come dimwitocrats can solve problems in the past but not the future?
Which costs more per year: the Iraq war or the sum of our existing social program spending? Maybe we should have spent THAT money on the bridge.
If Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi think we should stop fighting wars once it's obvious we can't win them, then let them put their money where their mouthes are. Call off the war on poverty, because it's obvious that poverty won!
Right, wouldn't want to stop KILLING people. Instead, stop HELPING people.
And the war on drugs, of course. And in your case, the war on stupidity. You lost.
Figures.
I've seen enough of it in previous work environments. Trust me.
Too late, the kooks in this NG have already blamed the President. They said he is spending too much money in the war with the radical Islamic terrorist. They think that the money could be "better" spent in the US LOL

You're right about the war on drugs...but then you went and ran out of ideas and had to resort to name calling and a personal attack. I win.
Was Eisenhower, the originator of the term "military industrial complex", a liberal?
Eisenhower did not warn against the military industrial complex and especially since he often used it. He did warn against unfluences from the industrial complex. In the wterm MIC was used is a typical liberal ploy. You want to privatize your military? Go for it. In the mean time learn to speak Chinese... or Russian.. or Farsi...
What Eisenhower actually said was:
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex.
Eisenhower didn't warn of the industrial complex alone, AFAICT.
It was? I thought it always referred to excessive influence from the symbiotic military-industrial relationship.
What does that have to do with my original question? I've never expressed any desire to have our military privatized.
Rantings? I say, "Just my take.", and it's a rant?
Calm down.
I heard the same figure (although it may've been off by 1%, at 25%) on NPR today. An civil engineer was on, expressing his frustration - that the knowledge re: keeping bridges safe & up to snuff isn't a problem at all - that's down pat; it's the politics involved, re: their maintenance. But then, I think we knew that...

>*Or*, the inspections' results are basically ignored.

Yeah, that was the bridge on the E-W portion of the Thruway - over the Schoharie Creek, just to the west of Amsterdam. Was due to the piers being in bad shape & then undermined by floodwaters, IIRC. I think about it every time I go over that bridge.
Cathy
Think: Boston, Big Dig tunnels.
Cathy
Or contrived.
guard against the influence... or in other words.. cut lobbyist out of D.C. and campaigns eh?
Those who use it to say it should be depleted do so from a hysterical liberal view point...
Good, then we agree!
