OT: Kennedy's Seizure...

They never would have arrived in the first place. They came for us. They will never stop until we leave. There is an endless supply of willing terrorists in Saudi Arabia.

At the time Jefferson was alive, there weren't over 10,000 nuclear warheads.

The Soviet Union lasted about 70 years, and a lot of experts who turned out to be right, like George Kennan, saw it as a serious threat.

I've never written to them about that.

They couldn't have been worse than the Brooks Brothers Mafia in Florida.

Then why did it provide for both Israeli and Palestinian areas?

Probably not.

Because until then, the Palestinans were not under Israel's control but lived in territories controlled by Egypt and Jordan.

Then much of the American South isn't secular, either.

It's ridiculous for you to put them on equal moral footing.

Name the US court ruling that said foreign aid is unconstitutional.

It wasn't prudent to give aid to every corrupt dictatorship merely because they claimed to be anti-Communist, but humanitarian aid, such as to farmers, has helped. And the Chinese do give aid, mostly to African nations, but almost nobody has noticed.

Legally, yes, but economically, no.

See above, but it's also prevented a big war between Israel and the Arabs for several decades because such a war isn't possible without Egypt.

...and a much bigger problem will be created. Scott is probably the only person who can foul up worse than a boozed-up, coked-up GW Bush.

Ironic that the topic has drifted to that when the original post was about a Kennedy (ignoring for the moment the tragic fact that it is about a brain tumor).

In message news: snipped-for-privacy@w4g2000prd.googlegroups.com, "larry moe 'n curly" burned some brain cells writing:

Tell that to the people of Atlanta after Sherman's march.

Kennan helped formulate the Marshall Plan, one of the biggest sewers of wasted money the world has ever seen.

Additionally, from Wiki:

Shortly after Kennan's doctrines had been enshrined as official U.S. policy, he began to criticize the policies that he had seemingly helped launch.

As U.S. Cold War strategy assumed a more aggressive and militaristic tone, Kennan bemoaned what he called a misinterpretation of his thinking.

In 1950, Kennan left the Department of State and became a leading realist critic of U.S. foreign policy.

Colin Powell extolled Kennan's prediction of the demise of the Soviet Union, made at the peak of its power, calling his prediction "no lucky guess, but a manifestation of genuine wisdom."

Thanks for choosing an example which solidifies my point beyond reproach.

Not surprising.

Out of 100% Palestinian areas!

Another ceded point.

Israel was created FROM Palestine! OF COURSE Palestinians "were under Israel's control". And so was their land!

Non sequitur.

Not at all. The Israelis celebrated the USS Liberty attackers the way the Taliban lionizes bin Laden. And I dare say the exploits of Pollard, Franklin, Ledeen, Ghorbanifar, Kadish, Rosen, Weissman, Gilon, et al, are MORE damaging to the US than the Taliban could ever DREAM of being.

Another difference between us - I care about legality.

I don't give a damn about Israel and the Arabs. Foreign aid is directly responsible for the 1970's oil embargo; it is directly responsible for

9/11; it is directly responsible for international animus towards the US.

I define "good" in the context of the United States. Why don't you?

It doesn't compare even to the smallest nuclear war.

BTW, do you know why Sherman burned Atlanta rather than do something else?

It permanently changed Germany, and that makes it a real bargain.

Your quote doesn't support your contention.

No, because I never claimed that compensation was offered.

What about before 1967, when the Israelis did not control the Palestinians, except for those who were Israeli citizens? As I said, those non-Israeli Palestinians were ruled by Egypt or Jordan.

Sequitur. There are parts of the US where few people believe in separation of church and state and would like to see the Christian Bible be the law for everybody.

US military secrets getting into the hands of Israel is harmful to us? Yeah, right. If we were smart, we would have publicly moaned about the thefts to put us more in favor with the Arab nations.

The law is an ass because the legal status of a budget deficit doesn't change its affect on the average American. You should care more about reality than legality.

So why were countries that didn't provide aid to Israel also embargoed?

Don't be ridiculous. Osama bin Laden's sore points were the corruption of the Saudi royal family and the American military presense in Saudi Arabia.

Yeah, generousity does that.

I do, as is obvious.

Gosh, it must be hell to be torn between your loathing of an empty suit and your love of Duhbya!

"Truckdude"...

"Truckdude"

LOL! You'll deny it, Scott, but you're owned again...
