Prius beaten by BMW diesel in fuel economy

You're right. I've driven in many states. California has far better drivers. You can't survive otherwise.

Zonies are the WORST in the nation.

I wasn't aiming my wrath at you, sir. Just that doggone cockroach and its drivers.

Wow. Infrequently diesel here will be a penny or two higher than regular, but that's not common.

But regular here is hovering around $3.59.

How much is a Porsche compared to a VW? You're comparing oranges to letter openers.

Unless you've driven a 3 or 5 series BMW you can't know the quality or handling.

You're looking at British prices. Their cost, even after currency conversion, is higher.

That said, the article was not about vehicle cost. Only economy.

Personally, I'd rather drive a BMW. Superior ride, handling, quality, safety, quietness, and comfort.

The chances of me ever driving a BMW are about... zilch. Besides the perceived snob factor, their reliability ratings aren't as good as Toyota's or Honda's, so I'm not exactly pining after one. Then - a difference of over $25K is a mighty large chuck of change. Plus, I actually think the Prius is cuter. (Natalie - quit coughing!!)

So, is the cost of a Prius going to come even close to that of a BMW? Doubt it...

Ummm... vehicle cost has to be figured into the economy. If you save some on gas, in this case it's going to more than eclipsed by the cost of the vehicle!

See my other most recent post...

No problem, Cathy. The "snob-factor" stereotype aside, if we all drove the same vehicle, the road would be a boring place.

But do me a favor. If you get a Prius, don't be one of those types of snobs. ;-)

I didn't say that.

Exactly the same argument when comparing the cost of a Prius versus a Corolla. Good job.

Which in no way negates what I said.

I figure you don't have to worry about me stealing your BMW, & I wouldn't have to worry about either you or Natalie stealing my (someday) Prius. ;-) If I had a Prius, I would get enjoyment just by seeing it see in my driveway - cute item that it is, nevermind driving it.

Cathy

P.S. I'm a good driver. Really. :-)

Exactly. Which is why I wound up with my 4th Corolla in a row in '04, instead of the Prius I *really* wanted... A difference of ~$5K over the projected course of 6 years of ownership. That could be now - in retrospect - be adjusted down a bit since I didn't know gas was going to creep up to almost $3.50/gallon, but still... I'd still be paying on a loan if I'd bought the Prius, whereas I paid the Corolla off almost a year ago.

It's in the garage.

No worries. ;-)

Just remember the extra cost when compared to a superior Corolla.

See my other post... If I ever buy one (Prius), it's going to be a big present to myself.

Yeah, smart decision. And prudent. But boring...

Not at all. They handle better than a Prius. Much more fun to toss around.

The Prius is a barge in a small package.

LOL good point.

The insurance is higher in AZ, but I still think Californians are the scariest overall. I lived in both states for approximately 5 years each.

I still shudder thinking about driving in LA.

You're talking about "Tijuana North", not California.
