68 bug roof clip on to a 71 standard

I want to know if I could put the roof off of a 68 bug on to a 71 bug? I am looking at a 71 that has some roof damage and would like to take a 68 sunroof top and cut it in the pillars and graft it onto the 71 replacing its damaged roof. I am not sure if the windows are the same size. The reason for cutting in the pillars is that the 71 is damaged on the passenger side in the rain gutter. I think that would be rather difficult to fix and get it right again.

I have interest in this also. Similar scenario to Terry's. I have a

69' (rotten bottom - Perfect roof) and a 75' (no rust - someone tried to lift it with a front end loader passed through the cabin- guess what happened). Question - does everything get cutout or just the roof shell? In particular I am refering to the bulk heads that hold the headliner and interior light in place. I do acknowledge that on the 75' the doom light is >Terry,
