Distributor year - Need quick response please!:)

Oct 18, 2003 2 Replies

Everyone has been so great with information so far I thought I'd give it another go:) I want to buy a new distributor for my '63 bug (the old one has a busted cap and looks questionable) and I found a guy selling one with the part number 113 905 205 T. Now is this number for a '63 bug or a '73 bug. I know that the third number indicates the year but since the beetle has been produced for a looooong time what decade does this distributor belong to?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Neil

The 3rd number only means the year on a vin number. On a part, the first 3 numbers indicate the model it is for. For example 113 is a type I bug, 211 is a type II bus, 311 is a squareback fastback etc. but not 100% of the time.
