I'm Back!! (& a question)

Greetings from Buckley AFB here in Denver. Bought my first bug (1978 Convertable) last summer and just bought a 1969. Thanks to all for all of this great info.

You say that like it is something difficult. How difficult is getting a car registered in Chile?

Here in the US, you take the "pink slip", "title" or what ever you call proof of ownership; to the motor vehicle department in your state. We have 50 states, and hence 50 different sets of rules for getting cars registered. Some of the larger automobile insurance companies will process the registration for you. In Alta California, you also need proof of insurance.

Registering it is actually not the correct term her, I just used it so you would understand what I was refering to.

The car is already registered to me legally. I bought it in an auction and took the invoice they gave me and registered in the national car register.

What I need to do to be able to legally drive it is to pass a safety test, and emissions test (4.5%CO and 800ppc HC at idle and at 2500rpm) buy a small personal injury insurance (US$20) and pay a tax (proportional to the cars book value, in my case the minimum, another US$20).

What I am still weeks away from is getting it past the safety test. I need to get my low and high beams working ok, I need to wire backup lights and a horn. Worst of all, it has around half a turn of steering wheel play! I plan on replacing the entire front beam with one I am cleaning up, that came from the other bug I bought at the same auction...

BTW you should target 2%CO... just thought I'd mention.. it's a wee bit rich but safe.

Yep! stick with the bahama blue it's one of the nicest colours. If you need some pictures to help with your resto I have tons. My car looks pretty simular to that one you posted from Samba except I have 16" fuchs now instead of brms.

the best I could get the yelow bug to pass was 3.5CO and 600ppm hc. anything under 3.5CO and HC would get over 1000. I guess it was just a tired engine with some low compression cilinders that would not fire when lean..
