Master Cylinder Questions Part 3

Thanks so far for all the help on my 68 Autostick Bug. I am trying to wrap up the work on the Master Cylinder. I ordered all new Metal Brake Lines from Californina Pacific/Jbugs and got 5 pieces. one for each wheeel and the long one from the back to the front. But I am missing the metal lines from the Resivor to the Master Cyliner. It has a Hose then Metal Line Hose More Metal Line and then Hose. My Metal Lines look kloged up. Can I just replace the whole thing with rubber hose? I bought the Blue Hose someone recommened off ebay. Or is there a place where I can get the metal lines and then cut the amout of hose I need to fit each together?

The metal tubes are large enough that it's hard to believe they could get clogged up. You could even flush them out with water, as long as you let them dry COMPLETELY before reinstalling them.

If you really want to replace them, keep in mind that whatever you do, you should make sure that the weight of the hose, tube, and fluid is never allowed to just hand from the nipples on either the reservoir or the MC. If you just let it hang, you're taking a chance that the weight, and the bumps you drive over, won't eventually pull the hose free, with negative consequences. VW provided clips at several points to secure the tubes.

I'd just use the old tubes and make sure they are secured well.

My Metal Lines don't look that big. And looked all caked inside. But will try and flush them out. Thanks Steven

In '68 they should be 8mm OD. They were 6mm OD up to early '67.

I cleaned out one of them and there is more room than I thought. Stuff washed right out. Going to wash the other one out. Got the bug moved into the shop and will work on doing the front brakes.
