Popout Window Latches

Jul 01, 2003 2 Replies

I am having problems with my popout windows on my bug not staying open. I can open them and tighten the latch and they still go closed. What do I need to replace or make to put in them the hold them open?

Thanks.

If you can remove the knob, a small lock washer, spring washer, or star washer may help the knob grip better and stay open.

I don't think I'd do that, it's been years since my first bug, and it had popouts, but if I recall them properly the two arms are chromed pieces of metal.. putting a washer in there will quickly scrape that stuff off.

I would think digging up a piece of rubber would be much more gentle, if you can't find such a "washer", perhaps cut your own out of an inner tube.

Wolfsburgwest lists some seals intended to secure the hardware to the window itself that look about the right size, maybe one of those would suit your needs.
