POR-15 saved my original floorpan!

Cronicles of Dave's `73 SuperBug project, issue #4:



Can't work on the tranny stuff today. I'm waiting on parts. So I decided to take care of my floorpans. After taking out the seats and everything on the passenger side, this is what we got:

Ain't that ugly? Damn battery acid. NO HOLES THROUGH! Thank God. Today's chemicals and process will be:

Put the wire brush attachment on my drill and got to work...



Cough cough! help! Rust dust mixed with battery acid is damn near lethal! Washed my face and nose hairs, got a respirator and got back coating the whole inside with a nice dust layer. Ended up with this:

Part #1 degreaser wash got me here:

Applied the metal etch solution (part #2), kept it wet for 15 minutes and rinsed got me here:

Got the respirator on again and applied the paint. This stuff is rank. Not as lethal battery acid rust dust. The degreaser smells great, though ;)

That's gorgeous. One half of a small can, BTW. If I don't get any tranny parts tomorrow, I'll do the driver's side. This POR-15 stuff is awesome. Thank god I did this now. I know I needed to do it, but I didn't know it was this bad. An Optima redtop to replace the lead-acid for sure! My original floorpans have been saved..

I thought it was sector zz9 plural z alpha.
