Can anyone identify this LR ABS part ?

Question

I bought an ABS sensor for a lathe project from eBay, didn't care what it was for, but I never used it and its not needed so I am trying to find what Landy it fits.

Its a genuine new LR part in the original LR packaging labelled : STC629, KIT SENSOR FRONT ABS QTY 1 CAT DES BN

Its a sensor with long protective lead which joins input from another sensor, and at the other end splits into two more connectors. The fitting kit is there with cylindrical copper clip, some lube, and an oil seal.

Does anyone know what LR this fits ? I have tried to look up the number on the web and get no match. Is it a withdrawn or renumbered part ? Its brand new and too good to chuck away, but my Landy is pre- ABS. Its no good to me.

It's an offside front ABS sensor kit for Range Rover Classic and it's beensuperceded by STC1864 the price of which was in 2001  £193.08 retail + vat,don't know what the price is today.Martin

Martin,Its really great to find someone who knows what it is - its been amystery. But, WOW, thats a lot of money for a sensor (glad my 110doesn't have such things) ! Do you think it was superceded becausethere was something wrong with it? Maybe thats why it was flogged offcheap. I certainly won't throw it away, but if somebody needed one fortheir Classic would it be OK?Steve

Sometimes they source them from a differentmanufacturer then give them another number, or it may be they have improvedthem but it will still be OK to use it. You can ask them the difference andwhy they have changed the number, they have no reason not to tell you evenif there was a fault with the old version.Martin

I thought all 110"s *were* Defenders until I remembered mine's a 110", IIBF/C. What's bonkers about it?For your reference, I took the info from microfiche RTC9961FAB and the pricefrom the 2001 Landrover retail list, it's the last one I've got.Cheers Steve, I'm the other side of the rainy city from you.  :-)Martin
