Disco stereo - weird one!

Factory Stereo in the Disco (DI - 96 "ES") was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, now when I press the 'mode/mute' button, it changes from Radio to CD as it should, but also mutes the CD! I cannot turn the mute off, so although the CD is playing I can't hear it! If I press 'mode/mute' again, the radio comes on and works as normal...any ideas???

Very frustrating as it is up for sale and I'd like it to be working when someone comes to view. I've tried all combination of buttons, swearing, bashing, but nothing seems to work!

I've never used mute before and hadn't really noticed the button has dual functionality, but I do wonder how you are supposed to use the mute button without it actually changing from CD/Radio?

Cheers,

Matt

Matt M uttered summat worrerz funny about:

Is this the button on the dash binnicale ( I don't recall if ours had mode there) or on the actual radio?

If it's the buttons on the Dash they all do that. the buttons I seem to recall are all on the one wire but offer a different level of resistance which the radio is supposed to distingish each button press by.

We rarely used our dash buttons and if not used they take a bit of "therapy" or "abuse" to get them working again as they should. Once you use them frequently they are fine IME.

That said to be honest it's a wasted feature if you ask me- It's as easy to reach the radio it's self.

If it's still no good I understand the MGF's had the same set fitted - may a cheapun on ebay.

I had a similar thing happen in the RR - for no apparent reason, the CD and radio used to mute themselves (ie loudest setting was about 1/10 of real loudest setting). Cure was to remove the radio fuse and leave it to reconsider. Ten minutes later, all was well.

It was the button on the actual stereo, but I have just been out and abused the switches on the instrument binnacle (I never use them because I found I always had to take my eyes off the road for too long to look around the steering wheel to locate them!) None of them seemed to do what it is marked as, but after pressing/bashing them all a few times, all seems to be back to normal!!

Thanks Lee,

I was considering that one, fortunately I realised I didn't have the code before I did it!
