ebay - WTF?

The thing with ebay is that folks either do not know the prices of items they are bidding on, they have no self control, they are mindless idiots who should not be allowed to go out on their own. I have been watching a computer case which sells for £45 in the shop, it has just sold for £60 plus p&p! So what can you say??

I say people are idiots, what is the bloody point in bidding over what something retails for, if you can be bothered to search for it? If you're mad enough to pay more than it retails for, then you deserve to be ripped off.

I've no problem with people bidding up to whatever they feel they want to pay. I sell stuff on ebay myself, and laugh myself silly when people pay monster sums for stuff bought cheap. Mandy has sold, amongst other things, second hand toys that she buys at boot sales for a pound for over twenty, a Harry Potter lunchbox for £12 that cost her

However, it's a bit different when a vendor opens the auction with a price so far above normal retail. It's a free market, I grant you, but it's pure greed to start that particular auction at anything more than, say, £40.

They don't come much more capitalist than me, but it certainly leaves me with an impression of Crook Brothers as an outfit.

ooh, you've reminded me. I was going to look at switching the brake and fog lights on the disco this morning. Done this to a couple of things, I reckon it makes sense - make the rear fog lamps into brake lamps and vice versa. That way, rear fogs are just bright rear lamps, which is what you want, and brake lights are a separate light which comes on when braking - if you've got the rear fogs on, especially, brake lights can get overlooked, whereas another light coming on, equally bright, will get more easily noticed. Assuming the mutleyplugs come apart, it's just a case of swapping a couple of pins, if not, it has to be done by cutting and joining wires, which is less than optimal.

Mind, the other thing I'm contemplating is modifying the rear lamp clusters to use arrays of LEDS built in behind the lenses :-)

I'm in the process of buying a Defender and Crook Brothers are on my list of dealers to visit, is there something I should know? Or, are you talking about something else?

All I know about them is from that auction. They are well known in the Landy world, but I've never had any dealings with them.

The sierra hatch and sapphire changed half-way through the production to having what were originally fog lights as brake lights and vice versa, some cavaliers have them that way as well. So I suspect that it's legal, yeah.

turns out to be easy on the disco rear lamp clusters (for the ones with all the lights in one cluster, anyway)
