Freelander - Time chain tension - Update

Hey all,

Finally have my car on the road again after having the suspected Timing Chin Tensioner fixed.

It turned that it wasn't the tensioner after all, but the Aux belt pully on the cran shaft.

The thing has a rubber in the middle if two parts of the metal pully, of course of time the rubber has split and the noise i heard was metal on metal of the pulley!

Personall a crap design i think, why have rubber pulleys? bound to fail, damn that german engineering (TD4).

Anyway work done by Doncater Counrty Vehicles. They say my viscouse coupling is knacked as well, so that the next job before it dies andt takes Intermedita transmission with it.

Landrover = A whole in the road into which on constantly pours money. :o)

Thanks for all you advice (again) guys

It's called a harmonic balancer [1] and pretty much every vehicle has one. They are generally pretty reliable - during my time working as a mechanic I only replaced one or two a year.

Some Mercedes have them & they are prone to fail with dire results.
