Nut-Bolt Sizes?

Feb 16, 2009 7 Replies

I'm trying to remove the front bumper from my '96 Disco and have found that my 15mm socket is a tad too big and the 14mm too small????? Is there an imperial size that I should be using, didn't think so for a car of this age.

I'll have one, got more socket sets than hairs on me knackers ;)

LOL!!!

Thanks, Ill pop round at some point, are you around tomorrow or are you at work mate?

Always size your sockets by what fits rather than what it should be! That way you can account for undersizing as a result of rusting.

But if you only have metric sockets you'll probably never have one that's just right.

These were 3/8" bolts - 9/16" A/F heads on the RRC. It wouldn't surprise me to find these on yours.

What time? I'll be around until around 9am?

Or come after work, around 6pm or so?

I reckon you are right, 9/16" is about 14.25mm so that would make sense.

You got any of these Nige :-)

I'll bob round before 9 then if that's OK, want to do job tomorrow if I get chance, unless you are about tonight??

I can confirm that, I too, struggled with a metric 15mm socket, until I tried a 9/16" imperial and that worked just fine :)
