Annoying CV boot strap.

Many cars use big tie-wraps. Eg. Fiat Uno You can get tie wrap guns to tie them with or use ( carefully ) a screwdriver and pliers. There may be a proper tool for garages/workshops, but you can bet it will be expensive. Jubilee clips have a large screw fitting and may not clear many hub bores. I couldnt get a decent seal without a tie-wrap gun on the Fiat I did this on.

I might try the tie wraps idea, got plenty of them knocking around so is easy to try and least. I suspect a jubilee clip might interfere with the surrounds, but I might try one on the narrow end which goes around the shaft which has plenty room.

There shouldn't be 'a bit loose' on a CV boot. Replacement boots are slightly smaller that the joints themselves and are stretched over. It sounds like the one on the car is slightly too big if it pinches a little bit out when you tighten the strap.

I've always relied on copper wire wrapped around the boot and twisted the ends together to tension it. Works well on lots of mini's.

That's a good point, didn't think to consider the boot itself isn't tight enough. It is a bit slack as it happens, despite being a dealer bought part. I've now found some better metal ties which seem to have done the job. But the MOT will soon reveal whether its good enough. Its something I'll have to keep an eye on.
