Cambelt on '95 Mk3 Golf GTi (2.0 16v)

Dec 30, 2006 5 Replies

A friend has just acquired one of these, and I was investigating what was required to do a cambelt job on it.

Autodata has been a bit s**te, to say the least, with it's information as the diagram shows only one cam...yet it's a DOHC engine.

Anyone know the deal with this? Am I missing something?

ISTR these are pretty much identical to the 1.8 16v as used in the MkII. Certainly not too bad a job to do - nothing particularly tricky as I recall.

SWK will be along soon, though.

And would you believe, Autodata has the same issue with this engine?

Find out the engine code and search it on autodata (that is the magnifying glass at the bottom)

Just looked at mine. Looks like they've used the same diagram for all of them.

And it's wrong. First time I've griped at Autodata, TBH. I'm going to start it tomorrow regardless. If there's anything stupidly complicated I suppose I can always cheat and look at Haynes.
