Getting car towed (Crawley / Horsham area)?

I wonder if Bridges Scrappie in Pease Pottage would do it for you for a good price? THey have a lot of recovery vehicles.

Should be in the region of £60 +vat. Will the garage not arrange a tow for you, they may do it for a discount or free if you are having the work carried out there?

When I spoke to them they said they didn't do any towing or recovery and didn't offer to use anyone else, guess they may have if I had asked but I didn't..

Probably going to book it in later with them so will ask.. At least I have some idea of what it should cost..

Is that really the going rate? I just recently got quoted

You could join the RAC and do it that way :-)

We would charge about 125+v for a 40 mile tow.

The message from WipeOut contains these words:

Ain't you got a mate with a towrope? Or is the car not safe to be towed?

Bumped one of my cars a couple of weeks ago, broke the steering rack mount and needed recovering 3-4 miles to home. I called a place called T.F.Smiths (?) nationwide, but a local depot is just down the road from me (I see the place regularly and it was the only place I could remember).

They were there in 10 mins at 11.30pm on Saturday night, recovered the car and charged me £47 inc VAT.

I was pleasantly suprised as the only time I'd ever been recovered before was ten years ago on the motorway and that cost me £120 :(

Why not ring the garage and them who they usually use, they might get a discount ?

Just look in yellow pages under car breakdown recovery, and get a few prices. Try some of the smaller adverts, ie smaller traders.

My immediate thaught as well. Maybe I should volunteer a tow. I only live a few miles away, and my car has a towbar and a spare rear No plate. Mike.

THat's because recovery from the motorway is a fixed fee set by some Govt regulation or other.

Oh right, strange....

Never mind, wasn't my car or money ;)

The fee set by the home office is a maximum, not a standard fee. Although many operators adopt it as the norm.
