First off I'm no mechanic...:(
Had a 97R Megane (1.6 RXE) about 3 months ago. Two weeks ago it started making a loud vibrating, whining noise from the belts area, usually when cold and at low revs. Took it to a garage who replaced the tensioner pulley and a couple of belts, said it was common problem and that this would sort it - it didn't. The garage seem baffled, started making guesses as to the problem - mentioned alternator, water pump or timing belt.
Anyway, although the noises aren't as bad now, they are still there. Anyone have any ideas? If it helps there is no record of the cam belt being changed, and its done 95k miles (Yes, I know). Am I likely to do any great damage driving it? I'm a bit reluctant to change every damn part until I find out whats knackered!
