Mondeo PATS question

Have a Mk1 Mondeo (EEC IV) with PATS and IR central locking. Quick question, does this model have a starter inhibitor as part of the PATS? Also, does it have a starter relay? (I only have the wiring diagram for the later one, which does show one.)

Yes, the reason I'm asking is it because it refused to crank today, but only once and it's been fine since - just wanted to know whether I should be suspecting the starter, relay or whatever...

Yes, it does.

If it does it again, look at the red LED on the clock.

If it's going apeshit, you've got a PATS problem. If it's not, you've got a knackered starter (or ignition switch, or control relay).

Pete.

You'll know its the immobiliser if the little light flashes crazy when you put the ignition to pos II. Probably a failed PATS coil. I have one if you need it ;-) :op

Thanks. I didn't notice the LED flashing, I'll check more carefully next time. Now I know it has a starter relay, it might be worth changing it anyway...

Ok it doesn't seem to be the alarm, as the LED isn't flashing.

Grrr I hate intermittent problems! :)
