Renault Clio-steam or traction engine?

I'm trying to positively ID a friend's engine type in order to buy new spark plugs, however, I've had such conflicting information that I'm more confused than when I started.

The Car's details are: Renault Clio, 5 door, RL, in pearl black, petrol, manual, 1200 cc, first registered 1/8/96, engine number FO38461, chassis number, 557KOF

1488 2500. Please, please may I ask for your help in pinning down the engine type (Haynes manual a bit misleading!) so that we can get the right plugs for the car.

Thank you for reading this post. snipped-for-privacy@btinternet.com

Go in to many car shops and they have a book to show you which part is correct. Or visit a renault garage as they will know which ones you need and often supply them cheaper. You only need the year and model. Don't ask for any if it's a diesel or you will funny looks.
