help with miata radio please

Sep 12, 2003 3 Replies

I have the am/fm cassette and cd unit from a 91 that I cant figure out whats wrong with.

When I push the on button, the radio station lights up and there is very faint sound made through the speakers (both headrests and both doors)

If I crank the knob to 11 (Nigel Tufnel!) I can hear that the radio is receiving but I can just barely hear the program.

If I feed the CD player a cd, it pulls it in, flashes some dashes on the screen, then spits it out.

What I have tried so far:

The 2 fuses under the dash look oK

I have disconnected the battery to see if I could get the security code to kick in, but it doesn't.

Any suggestions?

Should I just buy a new head unit from Crutchfield?

Thanks

Greg

Maybe there is a problem with the power supply?

Maybe, but if the power supply is bad, you might still have problems. Maybe try a multi-meter and watch voltage with radio on and off?
