And after the first week, I like it.

Sounds a bit rough. My bosses 99 model is still soldiering on with 200K, they normally seem to wear pretty well. (he crashed it 3 times too...) Though not as good as an 80's early '90's merc. What I don't like is 150bhp and the old man interior he specced...

Seriously, it sounds like a right bodged shed.

Why did you even contemplate paying for it and driving it away without doing a proper test run to ensure they had fixed it?

Because it wasn't from an advert at the side of the road, but from an indepenant prestige dealer.

Don't worry I will get it sorted. You have know idea how agravating I can be when I want something done.

Can Steve bring his along?

They're just as bad as any other kind of car dealer.

They'll do as little as possible, especially once they have their cash.

Never, *ever* trust a dealer - even a main dealer franchise will screw you over stuff like this given half a chance.

Good luck and all that - but you really should have checked before handing over the cash.

it's still only a 2 litre with six tiny cylinders, I'd expect a little bit better. and my bosses does, and it's an auto....Although not renowned for economy being a pretty ancient 70's iron lump.....

I'm still missing the point, methinks... or rather you are.

Even if the money you pay back goes into an interest bearing account, the money to buy the car had to come from somewhere, i.e: an interest bearing account I should think, for you to be able to buy it and be in the position whereby you need to pay it back.

So where is the benefit in spending £4k over something comparable for £1500 less... or slightly higher mileage for £2350 less?

'Warranty' - if it's that important to you, you can buy one yourself, and it wouldn't have been anywhere near as much as £1500.

Wouldn't surprise me, Jap alloys are shit. I've notice it on RX8's and my mothers Celica's looked awful after 2 years. I've got 20+ year old saab and merc alloys in perfect condition......

The E30 325i was better than the E30 320i when it came to overall fuel consumption, on account of the fact that the 320i, whilst it sounded lovely at full chat, was bereft of torque at lower revs compared to the 325i.

Same car, if anything the 325i weighed more... but it didn't need as many revs to plod around.

VAG ones aren't all that tbh, either.

That'll be all the salt on the boat crossing... obviously. ;-)

Funny you should mention that.

I drove past a s**te old Saab specialists in London earlier on today, and saw what looked like a mint J reg 900 Turbo in black parked on their forecourt. £975... made I twitch, it did.

My Rover was a 2litre V6. Economy would only come with very gentle driving (upper 30s when one of our older sales reps used it for a few weeks). In my hands it saw 24, sometimes as low as 14...

My merc alloys are 5 yrs old (one of them is only 2 yrs old) and they're all corroding. They're rubbish.

Why would I want to visit the frozen north with its population of whippet owning, pigeon fancying 'tards?

You'd probably win the economy drive, you're always going caerphilly.
