That the best you've got sonny?

I think it's pretty retarded to risk losing your internet account (yes that means you dipshit) because of your harassment of this guy. You better hope he doesn't report you to your ISP for internet abuse as you'll be looking for a new provider.

He's doing nothing illegal. But you are.

Tell me, if you get dumped by your ISP for harassing this guy, will Billy Bob pay for any inconvenience? Will he find you a new provider? Actually he'll be without his internet connection soon too, so he won't be much help to you.

Heh you can all use snail mail to contact each other and bitch about Horsepower.com and how they did you wrong. I feel a Country & Western dirge in there somewhere. :P

Maybe then the rest can get back to on topic discussions instead of conducting a witchhunt.

You from Salem by any chance?

Umm, no. I asked; they do not have the capability to edit posts and if they were to add it, there are not enough unemployed people in the world to go through every single Usenet post archived. Just stop now, you are embarasing yourself and it's getting hard to watch....

Here's my finger. I suggest you spin on it, sonny. Might activate your brain cells again.

If horsepower guy was editing your posts then you *might* have a point to your whining. As it is, he isn't, you don't, and you are making a complete laughing stock of this NG.

Bet you were a bully at school too.

You want to come out from behind your cloak and dagger, email me off line, I'll be more than happy to explain it all to you in black and white. From past expeience most people here know, I do not bluff when I say I'm going to do something. Never have, never will. The ball is in your court.

If everyone with a Forums page did what this guy is doing, so much for keeping things in one place. Anyone who posts through their forums pages may not get all the posts available or even have their post sent to Usenet. Their posts could easily be censored or altered and they may not have access to everyones posts. Is this what you want for the future of Usenet?

I didn't realize this little escapade was sending ripples throughout the entire civilized world of Usenet. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I feel so important now that I just have to quote James Brown, "Sometimes I feel so nice, good Lord, I jump back, I want to kiss myself!".

I don't know squat about Derek Smart but I have heard of Dirk Digger? Does that count?

I guess they got the memo about not feeding the lawyers?

I haven't crawled inside Bill's colon lately to actually confirm he is "full of s*it". I just have to take your work for it. ;)

I've made a fool of myself in front of the whole world so many times here that one more isn't going to make much of a difference. RAMFM has been assaulted, threatened, poked, prodded, whipped, cajoled, skinned, harassed and kicked in the teeth numerous times since I have posted here. Guess what? It's still here and it will likely be here when the dust settles on this matter too.

Actually this is a very interesting topic I think. And though it is off-topic os of some value. But I think it is somewhat more complex a problem than we can ever touch on here, nor do I think we will solve it.

I have been involved in copyright issues for some time now working in software and intellectual property issues in my past lives. I think there are some grey areas. Just about every one of our ISPs has it's now News Server. Everyone but Direcway (go figure). But thats another subject all together. Anyway there are all these News Servers that essentially replicate content. Even those News Servers don't necessarily replicate ALL content. Some News Groups are not replicated for one reason or another I even find that some postings in News Groups that are replicated get lost for some reason or another. Is this considered breaking copyright law? I don't know.

Also, copyright law in itself didn't really take the Internet into consideration. Does posting to a newsgroup constitute releasing content to the public domain? Some courts have ruled already that putting something you've written (the bits) is now the same has putting your ideas on paper, which loosely constitutes copywriting that idea. But to physically copywrite I think it has to be submitted to a copywrite body that registers that has copywrited material. At least I think.

We might also want to go back and check our ISP's agreement with us and see if there is anything relinquishing our rights to material posted on their server and newsgroup. I know if you publish to newsgroups from your companies network they consider (the company) anything you do on their time or on their network to be their property.

Interesting issue though.

Lot of people *do* do what horsepower guy does. I guess from the POV of his members it makes sense. Mustangs there, a mustang NG, it must be very 'neat'. Google has all sorts of s**te to wade thru.

It is precisely because those are the only choices for many that forums (well PHP ones) offer such scripts. Not every ISP offers newsgroup access - mine doesn't anymore so I pay for one.

You have a real bug up your ass about what he may or maty not do, and what he *could* do. But he hasn't so the problem lies with you and not him. He is merely allowing his members to peek into the murky world of Usent, and killfiling undesirable threads like you do.

Oh yeah dude, you better believe it. That's the thing about Usenet, it ain't civilised, and in many ways it really is the wild frontier. You think the behaviour that goes on in NG's would be allowed on moderated messageboards? Not in this lifetime.

Oh I wouldn't feel like kissing yourself if I were you. You might feel like giving yourself a hefty kick so your ass dislodges from your ass. You are being riducled dude, for hassling a guy to try and control where your *usenet* posts end up. Yes indeedy, tis causing much merriment.

You have much to learn, boy. Go forth and complete your education:

You may read his newsgroup posts on that site. Natch only his more contentious posts are there. He is very entertaining if you have a twisted sense of humor. Like a real life Basil Fawlty.

I'm beginning to think BillyBob is a relative.

Poor Derek he huffs and he puffs but he cannot stop that wretched website.

You are wise beyond your years. :P

And horsepower guy will still be displaying your best threads.

Me

Personal attacks.Exactly the kind of drivel I would expect from someone who has zero credible knowledge of the subject at hand.

Yet. The fact that he IS filtering posts proves he is not above editing. Are you too daft to see that? You see your point and do not care about anyone elses and anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot and open to personal attacks.

Oh please. As you said "It's only Usenet".

Yes, I'm sure I was.

Please post links to 4 separate web based forums that do exactly what he is doing. Do NOT bother linking Audiogon as it is in no way even close to the same thing.

He can't. Mack the Dull Knife is just spewing illogical, hypocrital and unsubstantiated B.S.

Deleting posts in there entirety IS EDITING!!! Mack the Dull Knife can't comprehend the logic to get from Point "A" to Point "B".

Mick the Dull Witted has a better ring, but I suppose you got called that in your school days. Don't want to bring up bad memories.

Have trouble reading sonny? Or just too dense to make sense of the written word?

I most certainly can provide links, as I said to Windsor Fox in the post above, and I *will do so* if I get certain assurances in return.

I ain't letting a bunch of extras from Deliverance loose on civilised society without those assurances.

I have made the same offer to Bill in another post. Read slowly, it might sink in.

What constitutes the content of a newsgroup? What's on your server? Or mine? Unless you have got a paid newserver and are not using a free server your ISP provides, I guarantee you are not getting as much content as I. Might not make any difference in this group - except on a day when your ISP is playing up - but in many groups it does. Especially binary groups.

Your newserver will not provide posts from 20 years ago like Google, is it therefore interfering with the groups contents? Those posts are still part of the group. Some newservers contain posts for years others months.

Your ISP's server will not provide as many months of posts as my paid server. I could say therefore you only have half the group, and your ISP's newserver is editing/deleting the contents of the group *for whatever reason* (actually in their case it's for space reasons, but then so is He Whose Name Should Not Be Menioned Lest You All Have A Hissy And Keel Over.)

And of course *you* interfere with the content of the newsgroup every time you use your killfile *for whatever reason*

Yes those posts remain intact on the newserver and can be viewed elsewhere, *but this also applies to Christian*

See?

Ack never mind.

Sigh. This is like wading through treacle.

Actually, with an IQ of 157, I'm technically a genius. And that score without completing the math section.

See, there you go with the ass fetish again. Like I said, keep working on your stretching.

Scott W. '66 HCS

Did you finally get it to your mouth? Sounds like you at least enjoyed yourself.

I do feel your disgusting posts do belong on a different newsgroup. Maybe something more like alt.gay.lifestyle. I haven't looked myself as I'm not into that lifestyle, but I'm sure you'll find something right up your alley if you know where to look.

Food? Are you a fat bloke?

You bastard! You hit on me, but don't bother telling me you're a great tub of lard? That's really cruel and I'm bloody furious.

I'll have to see a therapist now.

I'll send you the bill.

Oh the shame, that this newsgroup is being scorned and ridiculed by a bunch of do-nothing boys and young men who have nothing better to do than troll the Usenet! You really know how to hurt a NG, Mack. What can we do to restore the esteem in which the trolls of the world formerly held us? Agree that it's OK for Horsepowered.com to re-publish our threads? If that's all it takes, then I'm all for it. Horsepowered.com, feel free to re-post this!

I already feel better about myself.

You should look up that word, "conceit." In the context of your Aesop's fable, it means not egotism but instead the unshakeable belief in one's own subjective tastes and preferences. Ironic, isn't it, to tag this fable onto a post that says that the preferences of complete strangers -- strangers who are objectively idiots -- should guide one's own sense of right and wrong?
