An inconvenient Truth (OT)

Y'all are a hoot. The consensus seems to be:

2) Global warming is bullshit because I can find some people who say it is.

4) I might go see this film if you can prove to me that everything in it is true before I see it.

6) None of it can be true because the government doesn't say it's true.

Damn - talk about an appropriate title for a movie.

Back to sleep everyone - whatever you do, don't allow any pesky thoughts to contradict that which you already know to be true. That would be truly inconvenient.

BTW - this whole thread went exactly as I thought it would - though I must admit to feeling just a little bit smug about being right on another count. That link to an ignorant rant about redeploying the troops was left pretty much alone, as it reflected the 'politically correct' POV here. Jeff, you can be so predictable - I knew your outrage would be pretty much used up on this thread, no comment needed for the right wing liberal bashing.

Please, I'm trying to quit. The data is only been shown to be reliable back 400 years, they "think" 2000 years, but aren't sure. Before that, it's impossible to track with so little written history.

All you've done is proved some folks have a different mind set then you do and you seem surprised. Al Gore is a polarizing figure, no matter the accuracy the movie. Would you watch a movie narrated by Rush that took the other position on the issue if invited, or would you like most folks want to see something that you agree with ? Hell, GW was asked today if he would see the movie after being encouraged to do so by a group of top scientists and he said no, nor would anyone from the EPA admit they had. They should have had James Earl Jones moderate the damn thing.

That is true for surface wind, but if the earth did not spin the air would stratify in the same area, not move to the colder polls. The same is true of ocean temperature the warmer water moves toward the polls and pushes the colder water toward the equator. You can prove it to yourself with a bit of research. Hint; The temperature gets colder the higher one travels up in the atmosphere.

However there IS a difference of opinion as to the CAUSE, if it is in fact getting warmer. There are those that believe the activities of man can effect the earths climate. There are just as many climatologists and scientists that believe the earths temperature is the result of combinations of several natural phenomena all of which are beyond the control of man and have a far grater effect than anything man can do. Sun spots, the relationship of the earth to the sun as it rotates in it elliptical orbit around the sun, variations in the earths axis, movement of tectonic plates that changes the temperature of the oceans, and volcanic activities. Who was it that made the earth this warm the 400 years ago you reference? Who was it that made the average earth temperature a fantastic four digress higher for the 165 million years the dinosaurs roamed the earth? Who was it that caused the ice age 13,000 years ago, the covered most of the northern hemisphere, but not the southern hemisphere and why? ;)

They then must have the same 'ends' as did the Democrats. The Kyoto treaty was written up during Clintons time. He did you even present it to the Democrat controlled Senate for confirmation, knowing it was not good for the country.

During the time of the dinosaurs it was four degrees warmer. Mammals also lived at the time and it was the mammals that survived the temperature drop. There are those who believe that, unlike the dinosaurs, manuals survived because they have a diaphragm. There was far more plant growth then because of the warmer more humid weather and therefore a higher percentage of oxygen in the air, as much as 30% or more. As the oxygen level dropped the large animals, without a diaphragm, had trouble breathing and died out. ;)
