Location of VIN number stamp on engine block?

Sep 27, 2007 0 Replies

I'm looking into buying a used 2002 Mazda Prot=E9g=E9. I have reason to believe, contrary to the current owners claims, that the car does not have the original engine in it. I'd like to check that by comparing the VIN on the engine block with the VIN on the dashboard. But I don't know where the engine block VIN stamp is. Does anyone know where the engine block VIN stamp is in this car? If not on this car, does anyone know where VIN is usually stamped on a Mazda engines, or most engines for that matter?

Thanks

Daniel
