1mzfe info needed.

Hello Toyota people, I need some help with a 95 Lexus ES300 I am working on. It has the

1MZFE engine. I am not familiar with this engine and have a few questions that hopefully someone here can help with.

I am doing the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, and a tune-up on this car. It needs it, long overdue. THe mileage is

220,000 and the belt and pump were last done at 93,000.

I have taken off the timing covers and timing belt, and unbolted the water pump, but it is being held in by the metal plate that is bolted to the block/heads behind the cam sprockets.

I tried loosening the cam sprocket bolts to take off the sprockets, but the bolt is really hard to break, and I am afraid I might damage something. I have the valve covers off and am holding the cam with a

15/16 wrench on the flats.

Is there any secret to this? Is it left hand thread or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as any other tips on this engine that may be important.

Thanks, Inshan

Nope, no secret. You have the right idea, those bolts are just tight as hell. I think the torque spec on the cam pulley bolts are around 93 ft-lbs. I use a 3 foot breaker bar to get those suckers off...
