Blown cigarette lighter? '90 Celica

Hi again.

I was searching through the group archives and came upon a few threads about a blown cigarette lighter. I do not smoke cigarettes but would like to use this outlet for things such as a cell phone charger or other miscellaneous goods. The threads that I read pointed to a website that detailed the repair of the "fusible link" for the lighter itself (and amazingly enough, these guys all happened to blow their lighter using the same tire pump as I).

I do not exactly understand what a fusible link is (I have a good idea but am not 100% certain). I am also unaware of where I could find this and what is needed to replace/repair it.

Tomorrow I have a free day and was hoping to solve as many little issues with my vehicle as I could. Any further help would be great! Thanks again!

The lighter fusible link is on the back of the lighter socket.

Is it a fuse that I can simply disconnect and plug in a new one or will I have to unsolder it and re-solder one?

A fusible link is a short section of wire with a smaller diameter than the rest of the circuit. I think it is two gauges smaller. 16 gauge in a 14 gauge circuit. Ron

You will probably have to unsolder and re-solder the fusible link. The easiest way would be to replace the entire socket with one from a junk yard.
