66 wagen HIT!!! : (

well its just the bumper hopefully : (

I got rear ended by some guy not paying attention.... like you can't see a

37 year old Beetle with antique plates on it in front of you...sheesh. Its not that bad , but boy was I pissed... Lots of bad words... cant open the deck lid.... gotta wait till the insurance guy looks at it i suppose. im not going to settle for a cheap bumper either... thats an original german bumper that was not rusted... and in good shape. But the blade is toast.

But closer inspection reveals that new bumper brackets and a new blade are needed ( bumper has a split in it now) ... i think one towel rack is bent, both towel rack upper supports are bent. surprisingly enough since it was a german bumper... it with stood the inpact pretty good. the only place the paint is cracked is on the bumper bracket holes, i dont think there is any noticeable body damage, but then again i cant open the deck lid.

I'm pissed.

.................That German bumper looks like it did a good job protecting your bug. Thankfully, you weren't hit by one of those Expeditions or Suburbans with those 2 ft. off the ground front bumpers.

Thanks Tim.

Yeah it was a small car with a plastic bumper ( I was so mad i didnt even notice what kind of car it was except is was a crappy green car!!! and i didnt even notice if he was on his cell phone...DAMNIT!!!....

did some damage to his car but he wasnt worried about it (nor was I)... but i told him that the bumper could cost $400 to replace... he was wanting to not call the police... i said CALL THEM.

now do I take it to a body shop and get an estimate? or just get what money i can and order the parts? i have to wait till tomorrow to get the police report so i can call this guys insurance company... grrrrrr

Get some pictures of bumpers (comparing German "show" quality with the el cheapo ones) like what's his name has on

(I REALLY wish I didn't blank out on names like this!)

John Henry! (Sorry John, I just get these mental blocks when trying to remember names/terms/etc ... I can see pictures of the people/stuff, but it is sort of mutually exclusive of the name.)

............I'd get the money and buy my own bumper. The chances of getting satisfactory work done on a bug at most body shops is unlikely.

not really on the subject here, but why do the fenders seem more glossy than the rest of the car? was that intended?

great looking car, I'd be pissed but count your blessings that the bumper didn't get pushed in another three inches. :p

Sorry for your bad luck. I'd check thoroughly also that the exhaust system is not hit in any way. It looks like=20 in the pictures that there is no damage, but I'd be sure.

Bodywork... Bug...

I fail to see what's so hard about it. If ever there was a DIY type vehicle, old VWs are it.

Actually i did look quickly and there is a support bracket welded to the muffler... well its not welded on any more - its hanging free... i guess i need to look a little closer at that and the bumper support brackets and the inner fenderwells for wrinkles. cant open the decklid because the bumper is in the way...but the paint on the decklid and apron and fenders wasnt touched as far as i can tell, except where the brackets come through the fenders. going to get the police report today and contact this guys insurance agency to see what i have to do next... i may have to take it to have an estimate done.

I dont know. the grey paint is actually metallic silver/grey and it needs to be buffed out real bad, but the fenders are all glossy black not metallic... thats the way it was painted when i bought it a little over a year ago.... i think the fenders may have all been replaced, and one quarter panel has been repainted, but the paint scheme is unique. i have had the car about 55 weeks and it has been damaged 3 times in the last 5 months. all minor with the exception of yesterday.
