type 3 hoods

hey-

i've got a 71 fasty.

i like the look of the older (i think) hoods. on mine, the VW emblem is completely vertical on the very front, facing straight forward. i like the hoods that have the vw emblem back aways - not vertical but more angled upward - and not so much of a "nose" on the front.

ie. hood i like:

No they don't, but you can do what I'm doing (slowly) if you are into body work.... it will take quite a few hours to get it just right!

. Make a vertical cutwith a 1mm cutting disc across the front as low as possible - be sure to make it above the internal reinforcment. Then do the same thing about 8 inches up each side of the hood, again as close to the reinforcement as possible. Now you will need to trim off metal from above the first cut you made (to lower the front edge). You will also have to trim the internal reinforcment down each side into the corners do the top panel can be moved down. There in also a reinforcment behind the VW badge. The front of mine looks quite 911-ish now. You will have to leave a curious little squiggle in each corner because the rubber seal bed has to stay where it is.I'm also fitting early Beetle US style (sealed beam) headlights - the sloping ones :-)
