VW Van Fire

hehe...that is just a *partial* list of my sarcastic scenarios about po's...i have posted a list before....laugh at it, but you all know it is true...and i see more jackleg mechanics as time goes on...they are too tight to pay someone to do the work correctly and too inexperienced to do it themselves..then you get the ever increasing attitude that we see on this and other vw boards: "i know better than those with way more experience than me"....so be it....this "hobby" is going to shit and taking alot of cars with it.....

Have you got the one about the rubber junction at the bottom of the steering wheel?

In a pinch, you can replace it with a coupla long bolts, threaded all the way, and double-nut them stiff. If you are lazy and don't mind the vibration, you can leave it that way.

This is the only one that almost left me stranded on the side of the road once.

Hey! Speak for yourself! Us'uns down here in Texas keep some of our cars up right nice! Some of the others are works in progress. And some of them are donors for all the rest and get cut up, parts boxed up, some parts distributed to friends and relations, and the rusty hulk (in pieces!) left on the curb for the scrap metal guy or the city to pick up!:~)

Looks like I'll have to stick to dry powder. Don't really know what the difference is TBH, I just hope I never need it!

It applies to any application (vehicle) in which a fuel hardline passes through the tin. This particular breastplate is common to all the type-1 engines. I imagine there's something similar in a type-2.

Actually, the bulkhead fitting is also a good idea for battery cables.

post away...really....BUT be prepared for a wide array of "answers"....the answers and suggestions here are all great in their own way....but they are just a "tool" to get you from the point of discovering the problem to fixing the problem....work needs to be done on the *posters* part too..take the suggestions, do some research, some troubleshooting, etc, then you can make a repair instead of just throwing parts at a problem....

Cheers Chris, I shall post many questions, but I will make sure they are logical and methodical first, and I won't burden the group with rubbishy questions when I havent done my homework.

Time to go do my homework. Anto.
