Dash pad removal in '86 CJ

yes, there are screws under the windshield frame. Must fold it down to get at them.

Remove front 5 top screws (HT), remove front 6 of the back 8, leave just the bolt part of the back 2 in the holes. lift front of top off the windshield and slide a long 2x4 between the top and body just behind the front seats. This will allow the windshield to go down without the top being off. remove the top

Are you sure it's the motor and not the wire? That's where mine was having trouble.

Mine was the intermitant wiper module a quick fix was to remove it and connect the 2 plugs together that plugged into either side of it.

I found this after I had bought a new wiper motor and replaced it. :(

Yes, fold the windshield down. There are foru or five screws that hold the pad in place, and a few more along the dash panel that come out from the front.

You can leave the top on, but you will need to lift the top a little bit to gain the clearance for the windshield to go down.

I don't think it's the motor but something must have broke or slipped off. The wipers will go about half way up then a clunk (wiper motor continues it's cycle) and on the next revolution the wipers will go all the way up. If you try to push them back down the wiper motor will push it right back up the next cycle. Thanks for the help, all.
