You can test the angles and pull with a piece of string yourself.

Put a loop in one end of the string and hook it on your left hand or finger. Then run it down under your foot and back to your right hand.

Now when you pull with your right hand and keep the left hand anchor steady, you foot will move up towards you. If you move your right hand one foot up, your foot will only move 6".

Then hook the end loop on your toe and run the string around your left hand to your right.

Then when you pull 1', your foot moves 1'.

I don't think the winch cables or pulleys are rated for a 2 pulley 4:1 pull or more, something will likely give.

Nope a jacket or floor mat works great. It damps the power right out of the cable.

Yes, but you just use one tree and get a block and tackle setup.

Your way would only get you 2:1.

in theory thats great! in reality, your cable would snap.

im getting ready to put a video online thats going to shake up a lot of folks. the warn 9500i cable snaps at around 8200 pounds of force. the ramsey 9500 cable snaps at 10000 pounds of force. the warn also runs on for

3 seconds after the button is released. video coming soon.

Of course to get 144,000 lbs your spool would have to be a bit larger than stock. :)

Then you maybe should look into a block and tackle setup. Something like a two pulley block for the tree or anchor vehicle and one pulley at your front will give something like 6:1 (I think, but am too tired to think much), times the power or more important in your case 6 times less load on the winch to move whatever you are trying to move.

You would likely want an extension cable and some strong D rings and a tree saver to hook it up.

Be careful of the pull ratio and the size of your cable, as Nathan mentioned, cables do break in the 9-10,000 lb range. I don't know what yours is rated for, but if it was light, I would get heavy cable for the winch and use the smaller one doubled for the extension.

btw, i just ordered another copy on cd rom 4 days ago and got it in the mail today. i figured that was easier than ripping the dvd into a streamable video. dunno why it isnt working for you, works fine for me.

tree / \ tree tree / \ tree tree \ / Jeep You'd still have 2:1 ratio and you'd rip your tow hook and/or winch off your Jeep when the line pulls in one direction and the hook pulls in the other.

go back and re-study Eng 101... you must have been pissed that day.

it would just have to go between the jeep and the one tree.

Your gain in pulling force is at the expense of speed. every reversal cuts your line speed in half. Then there is the little problem of cable strength, winch hardware strength... and on. Your winch was designed around a given expected force, not taking into account the multiplicative force of several blocks.

that is just a thrust vector (the block) in that case it is merely a 1:1, I don't think that was the intention.

to multiply force it has to be:

Tree | (block) | | | | | | Winch Hook

This thread is frightening. it would appear that our collective mastery of simple machines only slightly surpasses our artistic ability.
