So its sports day, and I have drawn the short straw and have an amp and genny etc to run the announcer desk, juices for sale and ice cream for sale. Go to pull away and there is a clunk, followed by a distinct lack of drive.
Check the main gear box is in gear, which it appears to be as i can hear the box spinning, so then check it hasn't jumped out of transfer box, to find the selector lever is very sloppy and no resistance. Look underneath, and the linkages are all intact and connected into the T box.
Had to carry everything over the field, and then had to call the AA, who listen to everything I say, including my request for a total lift recovery, so they send a patrol man who says it needs a full lift recovery.
Eventually gets home at about six, and starts stripping everything to drop the gearbox and transfer box and see what the problem is. Not too worried as I have a spare g box and t box anyway, so can just drop that in and fix at my leisure.
Got all the centre console out and access to the top of the box to see the linkages, and found that they were working, then decided to take the top of the cross shaft housing off to see if the problem was there. Found that the finger on the high low selector shaft has a grub screw on it, which had worked loose and meant that the selector shaft and finger were no longer locked. Quick clean up and the grub screw went back in with some loctite and seems to be working okay now!
While I was at and had the centre console out, I also replaced the bulbs in the heater controls, one of those jobs that I refused to do because of how log it takes just to access the bulbs!
