You need to get your headlights adjusted. Tonight I drove down a twisty unlit country road. At no time was I in any doubt where the edge of the road was.
Because many aren't correctly adjusted.
For illegally using fog lights when visibility wasn't sufficiently reduced.

Fiestas still used a tiny little led in the switch as warning until pretty recently, and the switch is miles away from the driver as the OP stated.
I'm pretty sure they auto-switch-off when you turn the main lights off though.
