That wasn't the point being made. Most of us can understand the logic behind not having rear fog-lights on when it isn't foggy. But it's not so clear cut with front fog-lights as they're not generally a problem for other road users, apart from those susceptible to turning green because they have a poverty spec car without front fogs.

Well if it's not foggy & you think you need front fog lamps to drive down a road you've driven down before then you're either wrong or in need of spectacles.

You couldn't even get into a bog standard Comprehensive, Brimstain???

In fact, I'll even put in a word for them as being very effective on country lanes at night for seeing the edge of the road properly now that roads seem to have almost no markings on them these days and cat's eyes are a rarity.

Why is that? Why has the noble catseye now become so near extinct? If you see any, they're more likely to be the non-wiping plastic sort and too filthy to show up any more.

We installed catseyes in the '30s, the decade of breadlines and the Jarrow March. Is Gordon Brown now going to tell us we can't afford them any longer?

EU standardisation? Despite their massive safety benefit, they're rarely seen outside the UK.

That said, the new solar-powered LED ones I'm seeing ever more often are *very* good.

The argument was, whether or not front fog lights dazzle other drivers. I say they don't.

I think it's just a question of taste rather than safety. I've certainly noticed that now so many cars come with them as standard now, you don't see them used as often; they don't have the pose factor they once did.

It's a different road every time I drive down it - the cyclists keep moving about.
