The one I have just acquired appears to be wearing Firestones. I haven't crashed it yet, so they must be ok.

I've heard good stuff about Firestones recently - especially in 80s hot hatch sizes.

Mind you, they're a well estabilshed and respected brand, not teflon s**te.

It is water down a duck's back, SteveH. I'm too hardened for this kind of innuendo. SteveH has been around usenet for a while. I know he also has a motorbike, so presumably he likes driving on the limit, which is different to my style of driving. I don't dictate or command what people should think, everyone here is different. It's a mistake to think last post trumps the previous post. Nobody trumps anybody as you can't take a horse to the water; of course not. Whatever I write is take it or leave it.

Yes ...

So what do you base that comment on please?..

Why does having a motorcycle (I believe SteveH has 3?) automatically mean you like driving or riding at the limit?

3? I'm offended. What kind of person has 3 bikes, ffs.

I have 4. A proper number of bikes, for all occasions ;)

Another one of his little foibles - he believes anyone who rides a bike must be some hamster eating outlaw.

Best tyres you can buy if you want rid of the wife

Hamsters just dont hit the spot these days , has to be cute fluffy white bunnies , although shoving a ferret down hte exhaust pipe and maxing the revs can be real old fashioned entertaininment

Nothing personal. But just observations. Methinks that bikers ride motorbikes because they can get faster through traffic, using unreadable plates of very small size and placed at a steep angle. Well, I once had a motorbike myself, nothing special, a 250cc 2-stroke MZ. But admit it was quite fun. So the devil is in me as well, but now behind strict control. To many bikers become a cropper as there is so little protection.

Can you say why that might be so, and on what you base that comment on, a review somewhere or have you used any or know someone who has then?.

There were supplied by a local place where we've been going there for several years and never a problem thus far....

Please tell me that you are joking. You honestly believe that an extra 16.5 metres stopping distance doesn't matter?

That's 1.5 times the length of a double decker bus.

where.

Yeah, but if you drive carefully, it doesn't matter :-/

Well maybe, but bikers still become a cropper. My observations is that bikers weave in and out under the assumption that cars always continue forever in a straight line; never brake, accelerate or turns. When they do, the biker becomes upset and gives out strange signals of dissatisfaction... And 999 out of 1000 bikers ignore speed limits, and their bikes have tiny unreadable plates set at a steep angle.

Correct , the biker is allowed to use the road to its fullest extent and will change position depending on the run of the road , pot holes , service plates etc

999 out of a 1000 drivers ignore speed limits

No, because they can't; car plates are readable by camera or you get stopped. Motorbikes are more difficult to stop because police often give up chasing them for public safety reasons.

I wonder what's the wet stopping distance for a double decker bus at

62mph? "Oh yes, but they drive according to the hardware", I can hear you say. But didn't I just say that before?

The NOKIAN was the best wet performing tyre of all the tested tyres. The other 'major brand' tyres clustered around 50m stopping distance for 62mph. Use my equation from earlier for 62 mph and you get a [final speed at 50m] =62*SQRT(1-50/60.5) = 25.8 mph.

But 60.5m-50m= 10.5m at 62mph is 0.38 secs only. Be more alert, that's all.

What is the best tyre? There is never a best tyre because there is always a better tyre!

Bollocks the give up chasing us because they cant catch us , they just wait till 5 in the morning and hammer on your door
