Yes i'm sure the garage that lied to you, didn't tell you how many owners your car had had in the past, didn't tell you it had been written off, and generally managed to con you and had no trouble pulling the wool over you eyes, gave the car a perfect service before they let you take it.
Hey, some dealers are alright. Siani's Ford dealer, where we got her Scorpio, has so far:
Sold us the car for £2,995 - about £1,000 less than most advertised anywhere, and nearly £2,000 less than the only identical car from a dealer we could find. It was the asking price, btw - I can't understand why the car hadn't been snapped up, though when we saw it 2 more people came in and asked about it...
Replaced one headlight, with a new one, due to a hole in the lens. Replaced the tyres at purchase with decent branded ones (they're low profile 16" rubber, too) Replaced the bulbs in the dash Replaced the thermoswitch Replaced the thermostat (I told them it was duff, they did the switch first - but this sorted it) Replaced the front disks, pads and wishbone bushes at purchase Replaced the rear disks and pads trying to cure a vibration Replaced the battery - it failed to start properly one day, they said the old battery was marginal, and might not last the winter, so they put a new one in.
They're also checking the auto box electronics because it slipped into Neutral once, and replacing some more bushes to try and cure a kick under braking (I'm sure it's tie-rods).
All of this, without any charges, is on a 5 year old, 110,000 mile car, under the 3 month warranty which IIRC is required by law, and without complaint of any kind on their part, or pressure on our part. The battery wasn't even asked for; we just asked them to check for a fault code because the needles had 'flicked' on the dash. You have no idea how different this is to my experience with other dealers and similar aged/priced cars years ago; "It's an old car, you can't expect it to be perfect" - "well, we'll cover the labour" - "sorry, mate, sold as seen".
So if anyone in the Borders is reading - I strongly recommend David Harrison cars; this was from the non-Ford franchised 'Value Cars' bit they use to sell their tradeins.
See again your opening your mouth without knowing any facts, for a start the HPI was done over the internet, and the sales guy forgot to HPI mine till I turned up to pick up my new car, by then all the work had been done, and he just knocked some off the trade in price for the cars history.
