Right, need a new car. Suggestions!

Need to get another car to replace me 172. Budget is the same value as a very tidy '01 172 which seems to be about 8-9k over there but more like

10-11 here!

Loved the 172 (for all 4 days lol) so i'm considering another one altho i fear finding one as good as that one will be quite hard. I'm hard pushed to find anything better for the money that is close to the same age, tis afterall one of the greats!

One thing that is bloody tempting is a nice 19 16v with an alpha gold trottle body kit on it, not really wanting to go down that road tho tbh...

New car will have to be 2 litre max for tax reasons but insurance isn't a problem, needs to be as fast as the 172 at least too.

Everytime i try and think a little voice says '172,172,172' so i'm a tad biased :)

Suggestions?

No such thing.

Is this the Astra GSi that handles like a puppy on ice, has horrific torque steer, and rusts it's rear arches in a way that only an old Vauxhall can? If you squint, they look like a prototype 2-door Maestro, too.

Alfa 156 V6. Predictable from me, I suppose - but they're just unbelievably good.

Don't think your money would stretch as far as a 147 V6 yet.

That'll be the new 156 v6 2.0? :)

For an extra couple of hundred Euros in tax each year, I think I'd stretch to the 2.5V6 myself. When you're paying as much tax as they do in the first place, it doesn't make sense to economise and settle for a

4-pot shopping trolley.

you ARE kidding right? about 180 bhp is the max to go for, don't even think about a turbo version as not only do they rip the bodyshell apart, they are also just as quick off the line as the N/A versions due to the terrible lack of traction

nah, no matter what atra it is, they are all a bit pants have you read the new edition of top gear where they say that, after 10k it's already showing it's age? they may be quick off the mark and have fantasic engines and gearboxes, but they are sorely lacking when it comes to "loaded up" stakes and handling is pants, as wlel as the brakes

2 choices:

1 - Buy an Alfa Romeo 147 GTA (V6, 250bhp) You'll not regret it because it'll trash your mates cars before breakfast......

2 - Buy another 172. (I assume you mean a Cessna 172 - just like I did my first 2 skydives from?) Nice plane to fly, nippy, dosile and fun for you and your mates. Don't drink and fly.

You didn't have the 172 for long, did you? Surely you didn't get bored of it already? If you made the choice to have one in the first place, I'd probably lean to just getting a replacement.

But then, for 8-9k, I'd have a serious think about a Celica GT4... 2litre turbo.
