Top Gear Highlights Show

Just been watching the clip of Ronnie O'Sullivan potting balls against the Stig caning his SL500 around the track, and just one word to describe Clarkson - ignorant plonker :-)

(you wouldn't guess I've got 2 A levels in maths, lol!!!)

Ronnie went to break, and, like snooker players normally do, hit it against the side cushion and back off the back cushion to hit them from behind (a normal snooker break) and JC went and said "and he's missed....oh no..."

Bloody idiot!!

Hi Peter,

I was going to right something sarcastic but I don't think you would understand! Oooops.

Heh! Fair point, but it did look like JC was genuinely a bit clueless about snooker, especially judging from what I can remember from his comments when he was chatting to Ronnie when he appeared on Top Gear.

He doesn't have one. He gave it away in a Sunday Times competition at least

Ah, OK. not a Times reader, normally just pickup the Observer for food Monthly. Don't normally buy a paper.

Not that this is on topic or anything, but actually the normal break off shot in snooker is to hit the pack first time (with side spin towards the nearest side of the table, depending on which side of the pack you hit, and slight backspin), which causes the pack to stay fairly undisturbed with a few reds loosened. Also this shot has the characteristics of not bringing any reds beyond the blue and finishing with the cue ball on the baulk cushion having avoided canoning any colours instead coming back between the pink and the blue due to the side spin.

However, Ronnie wasn't playing a normal frame of snooker at this point, so he hit the pack from behind in an attempt to break the balls up evenly therefore making them easy to pot (not the intention in a normal frame of snooker).
