Halfway down the page he says the chinese are drilling for oil off the coast of Cuba. A lie taken directly from the transcript of a limbaugh show jan 23 2008

I have the Haynes manual but it's not a very fun read :-( I just don't have the space or the time to do my own work. Maybe one day.

You are full of shit. The It says the Cubans are drilling for oil with the Chinese implying the Cubans are hiring outside help. Now show me some proof this isn't happening. Your word it's not happening isn't good enough.

BTW, I've read in other sources that the Cubans are exploring off shore old in the gulf so you're going to have to show me some proof this isn't happening either.

If you can't do your own work, you should probably drive something else.

You can go f*ck yourself. I like driving my VW and will continue to do so and I will pay somebody else to do the work for me.

You really are just ignorant. Even Dick Cheny retracted his statement that the Chinese were drilling for oil off the Cuban coast. Do you know how mind numbingly stupid you are for believing Rush Limbaugh? I know, you get your news from Fox and you believe everything they say but honestly, don't you have the slightest feeling that they are lying to you? Have you ever seen a picture of said offshore rigs in Cuba? Don't you think that Dick Cheny, of all people, would be parading around reconnaissance photographs and trying to convince the public that drilling off Florida is our last chance to get all that oil before the commies get it? No, instead, he issued a retraction that his statement was wrong. In almost 8 years, how many times has that happened? exactly none, so he must be *REALLY* wrong on this one. I doubt you have the capacity to read and understand the following, but for anyone else who may read this:

And for god's sake even FOX news issued a statement:

Note they try to minimize their idiocy for reporting it in the first place, and they try to blame it on others, but in the end they at least showed a modicum of integrity and basically said they were wrong the first time around.

So who is full of shit n*****ts? Me or your stupid ass for believing everything you read and hear and then mouthing off about it?

*Note I don't care either way whether they drill for oil off the coast of Florida or not, I don't live there, and it should be up to the people who do, not a bunch of lying politicians and big oil interests. If drilling will benefit the people of Florida and they are fine with it, it matters not to me. But for god's sakes, don't believe a pack of lies from the various news media and crooked politicians who stand to benefit.

That too bad. To me, a big part of the experience is the knowledge that comes from doing the work myself. I'm such a mother hen when it comes to by Ghia that the closest I ever come to letting someone else work on it is when I ask for advice here or on the Samba. If I don't have time to work on it, it waits until I do.

"The ChiComs are drilling off the coast of Cuba with the Cubans."

Interpret that as you like. It is not important anyway because on that page the man is arguing with himself, rambling, creating straw-men.

Nobody but nobody in my area will work on an ACVW, and I don't blame them. That's fine by me.

Doing my own wrenching for forty years has taught me a couple things. First, I work so slowly that I'd friggin starve if I tried to do it for a living and second, I'm not all that damned good at it. Bob Hoover taught me that. I only wish I had known of Mr. Hoover thirty years ago when all I had was Muir's book.

So when it's down do you walk, bicycle, bike? Or do you have a real car as well as the Ghia?

When I first started driving it 30 years ago, it *was* my only mode of transport. When it broke down I switched to LPCs or the thumb. Now that I'm older and (somewhat) wiser, I never dub it without a tool bag and an extra fan belt and throttle cable. And yes I do own two other "real" cars that I drive when gremlins strike or the weather turns bad.

*LPCs = Leather Personnel Carriers = boots

come on now.... it was a friendly suggestion, you don't have to take it or like it, but damn man.... Anyway, what is being said by Tony is that the cars are very simple, and although they require much regular maintenance, it's very simple to learn, takes almost no time to do, and the procedures are very much overcharged for by many "professionals" that don't do them properly....(how's that for a run on sentence?)

not to burst your bubble, but how do you come about your information? is it beamed into your head, or are you just present at all these events, real or not? gotta get your news somewhere...

I know they are simple, I used to to do *light* work on my own bugs I owned back in the 80's, but that was a long time ago, and I did it out of necessity. Now, I no longer have the space nor the time. I do take exception to somebody telling me that if I don't work on my car I shouldn't own it. Besides, it's not a daily driver, I have owned it for almost 2 years and have barely put 1500 miles on it. I use it as a grocery getter and to run errands when my wife has the other car. When I bought it, I was faced with a choice of buying a 10 year old Toyota/honda etc. or the bug; which would you choose?

I posted a couple of links. Normally, I watch several different news sources, and yes, Fox is one of them (although usually it's a local morning show coming out of LA, their news is pretty straightforward without the opinion). CNN headline news is a pretty decent report if you avoid the opinion shows. CBS,NBC,MSNBC,ABC etc. and of course the internet. If I see something I don't believe (like the drilling story, reported a number of times by Fox) I look it up on the internet. For stories like that I rarely believe only one source because those stories are used to try to sway opinion. Wikipedia is always a good place to start because they provide sources for most of their material.

It's good that you do that. I work, come home, eat dinner and work some more, so I have little time to work on my car. I have done a few things like installed a stereo, repaired a leaking gas hose and fixed that god awful vent setup in the superbeetle. However, as far as, for example, doing brakes I am out of my league and don't have the space anyway.

We all have knowledge in certain areas that we enjoy applying. It all depends where your priorities are. My work commute is 1.5 miles and I work in the same place as my wife so we drive in together and sometimes I walk home. The VW for me is just to do those things I need to do when the wife has the other car. I certainly don't depend on it, but I like it a lot. There is nothing like pulling into a parking lot full of Mercedes and BMW's and the only car that people look at is my bug :-)

As he usually does. The more significant issue is that he is using the public airwaves to spread lies and innuendo. One thing I don't understand is why the govt. would make a big deal about "foul language" on the airwaves, but spreading false news is OK.

I'm going to write this prick off as a head case off his meds and add him to my twit filter. I suggest the rest of you do the same. If we all stop talking to him, maybe he'll go away.

Crybaby. You got pwnd because you couldn't act like a civilized human being. If you weren't being such a dick, I would have just dropped the subject. Sorry I hurt your feelings, I really thought you were an adult male and not a little girl.
