You're as bad as the couple of guys who came to Scotch Corner classic Ford meet from Romford. They were going to drive back in shifts. It was only 240 miles. Pointed out that I used to drive more than twice that 5 days a week on my own with only a couple of stops.
Cars are meant for driving.

True, but doing it in a truck would, by definition, mean that that is the main activity for the day, and you'd have got a good sleep because you'd know you'd be driving 500+ miles the next day, plus adequate breaks. Different kettle of fish when you've left early-ish in the morning (I'm guessing maybe 6-6:30-ish to get to the meet for a reasonable time), and spent the whole day (maybe 7-8 hours) chatting/eating chips'n'cheese/generally being awake and alert, followed by another 3-3.5 hour drive home. Ages back I went up to Preston with a couple of mates just on the spur of the moment and we shared the driving home as we were all knackered, and it worked a treat. Two in the front, the one who'd be driving next sleeping in the back (and the back seat of a Metro GTI is a surprisingly snug and comfy place to get a quick hour's kip). That hour's sleep was the perfect amount to recharge the batteries for a brief (well, about an hour or so) spell of driving.

You say that like you're the only one who's ever driven long distances... and I can assure you you're not.
Indeed... I just don't see why any meet has to centre around a criteria of 'not upsetting tightfisted northerners who can't be arsed to travel'.
I think it was more to do with having to place their trust in a Ford to travel that far without breaking down than where they were based, tbh. ;-)
266 mainly motorway miles isn't exactly something to heighten ones senses... in a 'boring VW' or otherwise.
No problem. York or Leeds is pretty much bang in the centre of mainland Britain.
Considering it's probably worth far more than yours and in far better condition, I doubt it.
I don't own a Ford.

Maybe, but to assume that everybody is able to put 240 miles by themselves is a little narrow minded. I couldn't drive 240 miles in our Accord without stopping every hour to hour twenty. No problem in either Saab - all to do with the car seat in my example.
LOL! Well the last one was relatively close to the middle of the United Kingdom if not England. I couldn't make it and Wetwang is close to York. But I'm open to alternative venues. Anywhere in mind?
